Nikethamide is contraindicated in conditions like Porphyria, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Respiratory stimulants: analeptics
Nikethamide was formerly used as a respiratory stimulant but its use for this indication is no longer recommended as the effective doses are close to those causing toxic effects (especially convulsions).

1.500 g as Single Dose.
Additive pressor effects with sympathomimetics or MAOIs. Increased risk of cardiac arrythmias with some anaesthetics (halothane, enflurane, isoflurane). May mask the effects of neuromuscular blockers. Increased risk of convulsions with bupropion.
Nikethamide is contraindicated in conditions like Porphyria, Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Nikethamide are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Nausea, Itching, Breathlessness, Paresthesias, Heat sensation.
Less severe degrees of hypertension or impaired cardiac reserve; liver dysfunction.

Nikethamide is a stimulant which mainly affects the respiratory cycle. Direct stimulation of respiratory center. Reflex stimulation of respiratory center by stimulating chemoceptor of carotid body.
