Uses of Lexomide: - Worm infections - Intestinal amoebiasis Intestinal amoebiasis Hypersensitivity.

Amoebicides

Diloxanide is a luminal amoebicide which is hydrolysed in the gut, thus releasing the free diloxanide which acts as an amoebicide. It is given alone in asymptomatic cyst passers. For patients with active amoebic infections, it can be administered with a 5-nitroimidazole e.g. metronidazole or tinidazole.

How to use Diloxanide Furoate: Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Diloxanide Furoate may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Adult Dose: Oral Intestinal amoebiasis Adult: 500 mg tid for 10 days. May repeat course if needed. Child Dose: Oral Intestinal amoebiasis Child: >25 kg: 20 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses for 10 days, repeated if necessary.

There are no known drug interactions and none well documented.

Common - Nausea - Headache - Abdominal pain - Hair loss - Vomiting - Abnormal liver function tests - Fever - Dizziness - Vertigo The frequency of these side-effects is unknown flatulence, itching, urticaria, vomiting

Pregnancy Category- Not Classified. FDA has not yet classified the drug into a specified pregnancy category.

Precaution: Caution should be exercised in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Avoid excess dosage.
