Uses of Lacipin:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Hypertension, Storke prevention
Within 1 mth of MI, cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, aortic stenosis.
Calcium-channel blockers
Lacidipine inhibits the influx of calcium into smooth muscle cells by the competitive inhibition of voltage-dependent calcium 'L' channels. This action results in the inhibition of the effects triggered by the influx of calcium into the cells, such as the activation of the contractile proteins in smooth muscle.
How to use
Lacidipine:
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.
Lacidipine may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Administration:
May be taken with or without food.
Adult Dose:
Oral
Hypertension
Adult: Initially, 2 mg once daily, may increase after 3-4 wk to 4 mg/day. Max: 6 mg/day.
Hepatic impairment: Severe: Reduce dose.
Additive effect w/ diuretics, ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers. May increase plasma level w/ cimetidine. Metabolism may be affected by CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. itraconazole) and inducers (e.g. rifampicin). May attenuate antihypertensive effect w/ corticoids or tetracosactid
Within 1 mth of MI, cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, aortic stenosis.

- Fatigue
- Ankle swelling
- Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk)
- Headache
- Nausea
- Edema (swelling)
- Dizziness
- Palpitations
- Abdominal pain
Headache, flushing, oedema, dizziness, palpitations, aggravation of angina, increased alkaline phosphatase. Rarely asthenia, rash (e.g. erythema and itching), gastric upset, nausea, gum hyperplasia, polyuria, muscle cramps, mood disturbances.
Pregnancy: There are no data on the safety of Lacidipine in human pregnancy. Lacidipine provides no evidence of a teratogenic effect in animal study.Lactation: Milk transfer studies in animals have shown that Lacidipine (or its metabolites) are likely to be excreted into breast milk. There is, however, no clinical experience of Lacidipine in pregnancy and lactation. Accordingly, Lacidipine should not be used during pregnancy or lactation.
Precaution:
Conduction abnormalities, congenital or acquired QT prolongation, poor cardiac reserve. Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy and lactation.
Symptoms: Prolonged peripheral vasodilation associated with hypotension and tachycardia, bradycardia or prolonged AV conduction.Management: Symptomatic and supportive treatment.
Store in a cool and dry place, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Calcium-channel blockers
Lacidipine is a potent dihydropyridine Ca antagonist mainly selective for Ca channels in the vascular smooth muscle. It dilates peripheral arterioles resulting in reduced peripheral vascular resistance and BP.
