Uses of Indamid SR:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Hypertension, Congestive heart failure
Anuria, severe hepatic impairment.
Thiazide diuretics & related drugs
Indapamide is a diuretic antihypertensive. It appears to cause vasodilation, probably by inhibiting the passage of calcium and other ions (sodium, potassium) across membranes. It has an extra-renal antihypertensive action resulting in a decrease in vascular hyperreactivity and a reduction in total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.
How to use
Indapamide:
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.
Indapamide may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Administration:
Should be taken with food.
Adult Dose:
Oral
Hypertension
Adult: 1.25-2.5 mg once daily, alone or in conjunction with other antihypertensives.
Oedema
Adult: 2.5 mg once daily increased to 5 mg daily after 1 wk if needed.
Child Dose:
Safety & efficacy not established
Additive effect with other antihypertensive agents and diuretics. Increased chance of hypokalaemia with corticosteroids, corticotropin and amphotericin.
Potentially Fatal: Increased risk of lithium toxicity. Hypokalaemia enhances digitalis toxicity with cardiac gycosides.
Anuria, severe hepatic impairment.

There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women and so Indapamide is not recommended. Mothers taking Indapamide should not breast feed.
Precaution:
Pregnancy, lactation, elderly, renal impairment, fluid or electrolyte imbalance, hyperuricaemia, DM, lupus erythematosus.
Lactation: not known if excreted into breast milk, avoid
Symptoms: These could include: allergies, skin rashes, epigastric pain, nausea, photosensitivity, dizziness, weakness and paraesthesia.Treatment: Treatment is supportive and symptomatic, directed at correcting the electrolyte abnormalities.
Store in a cool and dry place. Protect from light and moisture.

Indapamide enhances excretion of sodium, chloride and water by interfering with the transport of sodium ions across the renal tubular epithelium.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women and so Indapamide is not recommended. Mothers taking Indapamide should not breast feed.
