    Uses of Cefrozil: - Bacterial infections Pharyngitis, Susceptible infections, Sinusitis, Otitis media, Skin and skin structure infections, Tonsillitis, Respiratory tract infections, Acute Maxillary Sinusitis, Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis Hypersensitivity.
    Second generation Cephalosporins
    Cefprozil inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to 1 or more of the penicillin binding proteins (PBPs) which in turn inhibit the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis and arresting cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death.
    How to use Cefprozil: Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Cefprozil may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Administration: May be taken with or without food. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Adult Dose: Pharyngitis & Tonsillitis 500 mg PO qDay for 10 days Respiratory Tract Infections, Skin Infections 250-500 mg q12hr OR 500 mg qDay for10 days Child Dose: Child: PO 15–30 mg/kg/day q12h Renal Dose: Renal impairment: CrCl (ml/min) <30 Half normal dose.
    Renal excretion delayed by probenecid. Decreases contraceptive effect of oestrogen-containing oral contraceptives.
    Hypersensitivity.
    Common - Rash - Allergic reaction - Nausea - Stomach pain - Diarrhea 1-10% Nausea (3.5%),Diarrhea (2.9%),Elevated LFTs (2%),Diaper rash (1.5%),Abdominal pain (1%),Dizziness (1%),Vomiting (1%) <1% Eosinophilia,Superinfection,Vaginitis,Cholestatic jaundice,Elevated BUN & creatinine,Prolonged PT Potentially Fatal: Pseudomembranous colitis.
    Pregnancy category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Small amounts of cefprozil (<0.3% of dose) have been detected in human milk following administration of a single 1 gram dose to lactating women. Caution should be exercised when cefprozil is administered to a nursing woman, since the effect of cefprozil on nursing infants is unknown.
    Precaution: Hypersensitivity to penicillins; renal impairment; porphyria. Monitor renal and haematologic status. Pregnancy, lactation. Lactation: low distribution into breast milk; use with caution
    Store between 20-25°C. Reconstituted powder for suspension: Store between 2-8°C.
    Cefprozil inhibits cell wall synthesis and has activity against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
